Hi, I’m Tommy and I See Dead People

Wait, that’s not true, I’m confusing myself with the kid in that film about ghosts.

I’m a writer and photographer from London living in the wilds and dreaming about deserts.

I love abandoned things, quiet places, mist, sunsets, volcanoes, aesthetically pleasing accidents and scribbled things on walls.

I walk everywhere. An hour to the shop, two hours to the pub. I’m trying to think of a longer thing than two hours but can’t.

There’s a micro donkey called ‘Buster’ who lives 15 minutes away and sometimes I walk to him if I need advice.

As you’ll discover, I have a terrible sense of direction. World-beatingly so. So either by design, or necessity, I find myself getting lost a lot, often in wonderful places.

Lost in the Trip is my fever dream of thoughts and adventures in these places.

I’ll share photos, notes and ideas and interact with interesting people, hopefully people like you, along the way.

An Exercise in Going Sideways, Backwards, Forwards and Everywhere All At Once

The curation and editing process for Lost in the Trip is chaotic. Much like my brain, it’s a looping, confused mess.

I don’t shoot photos, come home, pick a few favourites and publish them. I have to visit and revisit photo sets and diary entries to make sense of everything.

This usually involves an editing process where I go:

“ALL OF THIS IS NONSENSE!” and then, a few weeks later, “Oh, actually, that one’s alright” to “ALL OF THIS IS NONSENSE!” and so on until eventually I have the kernel of something I’m ok posting.

There are multi-decade projects, which I may never finish, and nearer term ones that come to life in a single afternoon.

So that’s a long way of saying I’ll typically publish my favourite photo edit from June in February the next year. Storybooks, essays and ideas will jump back and forth in time.

Get Lost With Me

If you love wandering and noticing, then hopefully you’ll like it here.

This is for anyone who is curious and creative and enjoys photography and long-form wittering - as a reader, a creator or a bit of both.
